Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 376Rice Terrace Conservation Activity by Corporate Volunteers (August) August 24, 2019 NTT West Saga Group

On August 24, 2019 (Saturday), as part of the "Midori Ippai Project" initiative, NTT West Saga Group took part in the weeding and blueberry harvesting work of the "rice terrace conservation activity" jointly with members of the Nakanotsuru Residents' Association at the rice terrace in Saga City, Mitsuse-mura, Nakanotsuru.

Marking the fifth round this time, this activity is held based on the "Agreement on Rice Terrace Conservation Activities" that was concluded between NTT West Saga Branch and Nakanotsuru Residents' Association on July 10, 2017.
Originally scheduled on July 20, the event was postponed due to an approaching typhoon. It was uncertain at first whether the activity could be held due to poor weather, but rain stopped in the early morning and the event took place successfully.

A total of 62 employees and family members of Saga Group and about 20 from Nakanotsuru Residents' Association took part in the activity.
Participants engaged in weeding work on the mountain slope using grass cutters and work to remove vines that coiled around the wire fence using sickles, and conducted checks while moving along the wire fence route.
Meanwhile, those with family members took part in the harvesting of blueberries and played by the river.

After work has completed, everyone deepened interaction while enjoying somen noodles using the bamboo "somen-nagashi" platform and slider built by the local residents as well as lunchboxes together at the community center. At the same time, freshly-harvested local vegetables and other local specialties were also sold, which contributed to the success of the one-day event.

Before the event came to a close, a member of the Nakanotsuru Residents' Association expressed their deep appreciation for the third year of participation by members of NTT West Saga Group in the rice terrace conservation activity to help beautify the surrounding environment of the rice terrace.
In the next round of activity, weeding will be performed together with the harvesting festival in October.

NTT West Saga Group will continue to engage actively in efforts to protect the environment while working together with the local government bodies and local residents.
