Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 351Help Make Our "Satoumi" Clean!! July 7, 2019 NTT West Hokuriku Group
On July 7, 2019 (Sunday), a total of 48 participants, including employees and family members of NTT West Toyama Group, took part in the "Clean Campaign in Yaezuhama" beach cleaning activity held at Yaezuhama Beach in Toyama City. The event was hosted by FM Toyama.
This activity is part of the "Cosmo Earth Conscious Act Clean Campaign" that was launched jointly through the partnership between the 38 member stations of the Japan FM Network Association (JFN) with Cosmos Oil. It is held yearly in different parts of Japan with the aim to promote protection and conservation of the global environment.
The venue of the activity, Yaezuhama Beach, is a popular spot for watching the fantastical phenomenon of 窶徂otaruika no minage (suicide of firefly squids),窶 where countless numbers of squids that are washed ashore can be seen glowing when they move to the water surface during the spawning season. It is also a popular beach for those who are into windsurfing, jet skiing and other marine sports. For these reasons, the place attracts a large number of visitors every year from the Kanto and Kansai regions as well as other prefectures.
Blessed with fine weather on the day of the event, a total of 525 participants, including local volunteers, started to pick up trash for about an hour from 6 a.m. to restore the cleanliness of the beach. Beautifying the beach through this activity helps to protect the natural environment and contributes toward a bountiful satoumi (local coastlines).
After the cleaning activity, participants took part in a hands-on experience to release juvenile cherry salmon into the sea.
NTT West Toyama Group will continue to engage in efforts to protect the global environment while deepening interaction with the local community.
