On November 16, 2019 (Saturday), NTT West Nagasaki Group took part again in the "Togitsu no Mori Reforestation Plan Project D - Acorns" tree-planting festival this year as part of the Midori Ippai Project. The event was hosted by Togitsu-cho.
Started eight years ago, this activity aims at preventing wild boars making their way from the depths of the mountains into villages from causing further damage on the crops and helping them to return to the mountains by planting trees from saplings to produce acorns which they like to feed on.
Marking the sixth year of participation, NTT West Nagasaki Group took part in this event on this perfect day for tree planting that was clear and cloudless.
At the opening ceremony, silent prayer was offered to the souls of the victims of Typhoon No. 19. This was followed by a greeting by the Mayor of Togitsu-cho and briefing on the precautions to take during tree planting.
Next, a total of 110 participants, including 48 employees and family members of NTT West Nagasaki Group, as well as the staff of Togitsu-cho Town Office, employees of other companies and the local residents, were divided into groups to engage in the work.
Participants paid careful attention to safety as they had to perform work on unstable ground such as on steep slopes, and completed planting about 700 rhododendron and hydrangea saplings in about an hour's time.
At the end of the activity, all participants were treated to a barbeque event by Togitsu-cho, where they enjoyed delicious meat and local vegetables under the brisk autumn weather.
The tree-planting event came to a successful close with Togitsu-cho expressing gratitude to the participants and hoping for their continued support.
NTT West Nagasaki Group will continue to take part in this activity to keep track of the growth of "Togitsu no Mori" together with the local community.
