Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 328Interaction Activity at "NTT Hikari no Mori (Bright Forest)" November 17, 2018 NTT West Kochi Group

On November 17, 2018 (Saturday), NTT West Kochi Group carried out thinning works at the "NTT Hikari no Mori (Bright Forest)." Marking the 10th round of the activity, the autumn sky was cloudless and weather was stable and warm on the day of the event, which was participated by a total of 47 people who are employees, family members as well as retired employees of Kochi Group.

This activity is held based on the "Cooperative Forestation Partnership Agreement" that was concluded among NTT West Kochi Group, Kochi City and Kochi Forest Owners' Cooperative and Kochi Prefecture in 2008 to engage in activities such as building roads necessary for tree thinning and management work in the "NTT Hikari no Mori" Cooperative Forest.

Participants who took part in the interaction activity were divided into two groups, A and B, and a hands-on tree-thinning workshop and a woodwork class were conducted for each group.

The hands-on tree-thinning workshop was held on a slightly steep slope. Under the guidance of members of the Forest Owners' Cooperative, participants including children and adults worked together to cut down four Japanese cedar trees with a diameter of about 30cm using saws.

At the woodwork class, adult participants learned to make mobile phone stands, while children challenged making of chairs. Chair-making was thought to be a simple process, but it turned out to be a rather tough challenge that took up more time than expected. Some families did not have enough time for their own craft work as a result, but nonetheless the cheerful smiles of the children who sat delightedly on the completed chairs left a deep impression.

Participants had a satisfying lunch that included charcoal-grilled food, inaka sushi (a local specialty of Kochi) and miso soup with pork and vegetables. It was an enjoyable moment with their joyous laughter echoing through the quiet mountains.

NTT West Kochi Group will continue to engage actively in such interaction activities as part of the "Midori Ippai Project."
