On March 16, 2019 (Saturday), NTT West Oita Group took part in the "23rd Forestation Activity by Volunteers," a tree planting activity that was held at the Oita Kenmin no Mori Forest Park located in Oita City, Megusuno. The event was hosted by Mori Net Oita, a public interest foundation.
This event is held yearly by Mori Net Oita as part of the project to promote greening through the "Green Fund" and conserve the local environment.
It was very windy on the day of the event. A total of 170 participants, including 37 employees and family members of Oita Group, members from other companies as well as public volunteers, took part in the activity.
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony in front of the Forest Learning and Exhibition Center, where Mr. Shigemoto, Chairman of Mori Net Oita, gave a greeting, followed by words of appreciation from Mr. Hibi, Deputy Manager of NTT West Oita Branch, who also urged all the participants to have an enjoyable and memorable experience without getting injured.
Participants were then briefed on the ways to plant the trees, after which they moved to the sites where they worked up a good sweat to plant a total of 1,100 saplings of four different types (Japanese dogwood, yamazakura cherry, Japanese maple and Japanese camellia) on a slope surface that is 0.4 hectares wide.
Participants returned to the venue of the opening ceremony after completing the work to enjoy warm rice and "morijiru" soup prepared by the local residents by the reservoir.
NTT West Oita Group will continue to contribute to the protection of the global environment by engaging in planting and forest conservation activities in cooperation with the local communities.
