Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 3145th "NTT Midori Ippai Shionoe no Mori" Tree Planting Activity November 10, 2018 NTT West Kagawa Group

On November 10, 2018 (Saturday), NTT West Kagawa Group held the 5th "NTT Midori Ippai Shionoe no Mori" Tree Planting Activity at the forest in Takamatsu City, Shionoe-cho (forest under the ownership of Takamatsu City).

A community-based environmental protection activity that Kagawa Group actively engages in, this is the fifth year after the Forest Matching Agreement was concluded among Kagawa Prefecture, Takamatsu City and NTT West Kagawa Branch (cooperative forest development promotion project) in 2014.

The Forest Matching Agreement is an agreement that is concluded between a private sector company that is interested in forest development with the prefecture or city government, which gathers information on forests that require maintenance. The objective is to promote "cooperative forest development" through participation and bearing of expenses by the private sector to maintain the function of the forest, which is an asset of the prefectural residents.

A total of about 60 participants, including employees and family members of Kagawa Group as well as members of organizations such as Kagawa Prefecture Greenery Development Section and Shionoe-cho Forest Owners' Cooperative, took part in this event where 200 yamazakura cherry saplings were planted.
Also, among the yamazakura cherry saplings that were planted last year, a red ribbon was tied around those that are growing steadily to ease identification.

Children participants tried very hard to use the hoes, and attached commemorative nameplates to the saplings they have planted while hoping that they would get to see the cherry blossoms when the plants have grown tall. This was followed by a hands-on workshop to make piggy banks using the felled bamboos.

This year, we also featured the revamped sign board in the forest after "Midori Nishino" was replaced by "Yui Yachigusa" as NTT West Group's environmental mascot character. The design is based on the yamazakura cherry in full bloom, a glaring blue sky and nature, and a forest that is the habitat of birds.

NTT West Kagawa Group will continue to engage actively in efforts to protect the local environment while working together with the local government bodies.
