On November 3, 2018 (Saturday), NTT West Tokai Group held the "Higashiyama Hana Ippai Project (Spring Flowerbeds)" at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Nagoya City.

This flowerbed-making project is organized by Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens three times a year in spring, summer and autumn in cooperation with other corporations and groups to transform the botanical garden into a place that is full of seasonal flowers. Tokai Group has been taking part in this event since 2013.

Blessed with fine weather on the day of the activity, a total of 207 participants from 44 families who are employees, family members and retired employees of Tokai Group took part in the event.

Participants gathered at the flower field in the botanical garden at 10 a.m. Lower elementary grade children participants were asked to put on a greenish-yellow vests and a group photo of all the participants was taken.

After the photo shoot, work started with the participants assigned to one of the three flowerbeds to plant pansy seedlings and tulip bulbs.

Planting of pansies started under the guidance of staff from the botanical garden. The seedlings were placed on the soil of the flowerbed at evenly-spaced positions to mark the spot for planting. Both adult and children participants engaged in the planting work at their own pace while paying attention not to step on the seedlings.

After planting the pansies, the nest step was to bury the tulip bulbs in the soil. Care was exercised not to step on the planted pansy seedlings while planting the bulbs in between them. All the participants had an enjoyable time engaging in the task.

Thanks to the hard work of the participants, the area transformed into tricolored flowerbeds in blue, yellow and rose colors, which would add joy to visitors of the garden.

All the tasks were completed smoothly in about an hour's time with no injury.

The spring flowerbeds are expected to be in full blossom some time between mid and late April next year. The tulips will also bloom at about the same time to make the flowerbeds even more colorful. Also, as part of the effort to gain support of the initiative on the "Midori Ippai Project" at home, we have given three types of tulip bulbs to interested participants for them to bring home.

NTT West Tokai Group will continue to engage in environmental and social contribution activities that place importance on biodiversity together with our employees and their family members.
