Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 292"Rice Terrace Conservation Activity" by Corporate Volunteers July 21, 2018 NTT West Saga Group

On July 21, 2018 (Saturday), NTT West Saga Group took part in the "rice terrace conservation activity" jointly with members of the Nakanotsuru Residents' Association at the rice terrace located in Saga, Mitsuse-mura, Nakanotsuru.

This is the third round of the activity that is held as a part of the corporate volunteer initiative based on the "Agreement on Rice Terrace Conservation Activities" that was concluded between Nakanotsuru Residents' Association and NTT West Saga Branch on July 10 last year. A total of 65 participants took part in this event, including 20 members from Nakanotsuru Residents' Association and 45 who are Saga Group employees and their family members.

Under the scorching heat on the day of the event, participants engaged in weeding work on the slope using grass cutters as well as work to remove vines tangled around the wire fence using sickles. Meanwhile, those with family members took part in an hands-on experience to harvest blueberries. Work completed smoothly with thoroughgoing measures taken among the participants to prevent heatstroke, such as ensuring adequate hydration and breaks.

At the end of the activity, the children participants played by the river, while everyone deepened interaction while enjoying somen noodles using the bamboo "somen-nagashi" platform and slider built during last year's activity as well as having lunchboxes together at the community center.

In their greeting, members of the Nakanotsuru Residents' Association also expressed their deep thanks to the members of NTT West Saga Group for taking part in the second year of the rice terrace conservation effort to clean up the surrounding environment.

The next round will be a weeding activity as well as "harvest festival" scheduled some time in October.

NTT West Saga Group will continue to engage in efforts to protect the global environment while working together with the local government bodies.
