Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 287Participation in "Spring Mass Cleaning at Mount Daisen" April 15, 2018 NTT West Tottori Group

On April 15, 2018 (Sunday), 31 members of NTT West Tottori Group took part in the "Spring Mass Cleaning at Mount Daisen," a national park which is also one of the most famous mountains in the Chugoku region.

This year marks the 1,300th anniversary since the first temple was built on Mount Daisen. Many events are scheduled in the area around the mountain, and a much larger number of visitors from Tottori Prefecture and other parts of Japan is expected compared to past years.

Prior to the cleanup activity on the same day, a "sansho (mountain bell)" relay event was held to pass the "sansho" replica around the different towns and villages. It is also the symbol for the 3rd Nationwide Event to Commemorate "Mountain Day" in Tottori (held in August 2018).

Participants attended a briefing on the necessary precautions at the opening ceremony before engaging in the respective activities.

The original plan was for the participants to move to the top of the mountain in the chair lifts and engage in cleaning as they make their way down to the foot of the mountain. However, due to the long rain that continued throughout the entire duration of the event, participants focused on cleaning around the foot of the mountain without using the chair lifts.

The area was cleaned up thoroughly, and the activity ended with the participants gaining a hands-on experience on the painstaking efforts needed to hand the natural environment down to future generations.

NTT West Tottori Group will continue to work together with the local community to engage actively in efforts to protect the beautiful natural environment, which is an asset that the local community takes pride in.
