Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 275NTT West Group Tree Planting Event April 22, 2018 NTT West Group

On April 22, 2018 (Sunday), the NTT West Group Tree Planting Event was held at the Sakai 7-3 District Forest of Symbiosis.

Started since 2011, this is the 14th round of activity under the tree planting project. Blessed with clear weather on the day of the event, 100 trees were planted across an area of 2,200m2, and grass cutting was performed at the areas where trees were planted during the past activities.

In the opening address, Mr. Uema, board member of NTT West, expressed that the role of NTT West to resolve social issues through ICT as well as the tree planting activity are also extremely important for environmental protection from the perspective of SDGs*. This was followed by a tree planting ceremony by NTT West board member - Mr. Uema, and Manager of Osaka-minami Branch - Mr. Teranishi.

The species of trees planted this year include 40 muku trees, 30 Itajii Chinkapin, 30 Japanese maple and 5 yamazakura (wild cherry), adding up to a total of 105 trees. They were carefully planted and labeled with tags by all the participants under the guidance of members from Nature Osaka.

After planting the trees, almost all the participants engaged in grass cutting at the area where trees were planted five years ago, during which a science show was held for the children participants.
Grass cutting was performed over a wide area of 1,200m2. Under the guidance of members from Nature Osaka, many of the employees and their family members took part in the activity to complete the weeding process. Meanwhile, the science show offered an enjoyable experience to both children and adults with Shochiku Geino comedian duo "Borutoboruzu" taking the stage with interesting experiments that would arouse interest in science among the children, the generation who will be responsible for forging our future.

At the closing address, Manager of Osaka-minami Branch concluded the event with the hope that participants can develop interest toward environmental protection through tree planting and boost the Midori Ippai Project by taking part in the grass-cutting activities with the "Midori no Kai" group as well as the tree planting activities at different locations.

We sincerely hope that the saplings planted by the participants will eventually grow into big trees and provide a wonderful habitat for a wide variety of living creatures.

*SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are a set of international goals for the period from 2016 to 2030 which were adopted at the UN Summit in September 2015. These are described in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development."
