Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 272"Gifu Midori Ippai Project" - 6th Year into the Building of "Green Curtains" May 9 and 15, 2018 NTT West Gifu Group

On 9 May (Wednesday) and 15 May (Tuesday) 2018, NTT West Gifu Group engaged in the sixth year of the "green curtain" building activity.
This is an activity to plant creepers and other plants in the surrounding areas and inner courtyard of the buildings under NTT West Gifu Group (Kano Building and Umegae Building).

The main objective is to cut power consumption by reducing temperature rise inside the buildings due to intense heat from the sun in the hot summer using "green curtains." At the same time, the luxuriant leaves of the plants add a sense of coolness to both the participants and passers-by while the harvests that can be obtained from the activity are also something to look forward to.

This year, standard creeper choices including bitter gourd, cucumber and tomato were planted at Umegae Building. As with last year, the popular sweet potatoes were planted in the flowerbeds in addition to seasonal flowers including zinnia, torenia and portulaca.

At Kano Building, participants challenged planting of blue morning glory, a type of creeper plant. Meanwhile, periwinkles, which are able to withstand exhaust gas and air pollution, were planted in the flowerbeds in addition to fragrant herbal plants that are also expected to have a therapeutic effect.

The event was held on the first day after the end of a long weekend. Many employees were soaked in sweat under the hot weather as they engaged in activities from weeding the flowerbeds to changing the soil and planting seedlings, which were carried out smoothly thanks to advice offered by the experienced employees.

Subsequent tasks that need to be carried out in tandem with the quick growth of the seedlings include watering and weeding, as well as guiding the creepers toward the poles and nets installed.

We will continue with the activities so that the plants will grow into cool "green curtains" with thick green leaves by midsummer. At the same time, we will also keep track of the growth of cucumbers and other harvests as well as that of soothing flowers and nurture them with care.

NTT West Gifu Group will continue to engage in this activity of growing plants, which will also help to conserve energy.
