Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 261Participation in "Satoyama (Village Forest) Development at Kozono-yama Oyama-yama Green Belt" December 2, 2017 NTT West Kumamoto Group

On December 2, 2017 (Saturday), NTT West Kumamoto Group took part in the satoyama (village forest) development work at the Kozono-yama Oyama-yama green belt located in Higashi-ku of Kumamoto City.

This activity is intended to transform a part of the green belt into a satoyama (village forest) in response to the occurrence of harmful invasion into surrounding vegetation due to the rapid proliferation of moso bamboos, which blocks off sunlight and causes trees to wither by sucking up nutrients from the soil.
Earth Greenery Activities Japan (EGAJ), an NPO, was commissioned by Kumamoto City to hold this activity. This is the third time Kumamoto Group participated in the event.

A total of 75 participants took part in the event, including 62 supporters from the Fukuoka Group (Value Enhancement Committee) and also members of EGAJ and the local community association.
The event kicked off with an opening address from Mr. Maeda, Manager of NTT West Kumamoto Branch, who thanked the participants for their support to take part in the activity on a non-working day and urged the participants to take care not to injure themselves while performing the work. This was followed by a briefing on the details of the activity, after which participants engaged in tasks such as cutting the bamboos, moving the cut bamboos, trimming their branches, and making flowerbeds in the surrounding areas.

After the activity, a quiz event about the Kozono-yama Oyama-yama green belt was held, and participants who got the most number of correct answers were presented with Mongolian rock salt as a gift by EGAJ.

NTT West Kumamoto Group will continue to engage actively in environment conservation efforts while deepening the cooperative relationship with the local community.
