Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 254Kanoya Public Mass Cleaning - "34th Kimotsukigawa Cleaning Mission" July 16, 2017 NTT West Kagoshima Group

On July 16, 2017 (Sunday), the "34th Kimotsukigawa Cleaning Mission" was held by the organizer, Kimotsukigawa Cleaning Mission Executive Committee. A total of 15 employees from NTT West Kagoshima Group who work at the NTT Kanoya Building and live in Kanoya City took part in the activity.

In response to the passion to "make Kimotsukigawa River clean," this activity was first launched in 1982 as a "Small Kindness Movement." Ever since, it has been held yearly and with the increasing number of participants each year, it has now taken root as a major public event that involves the united effort of both the city's residents and the private sector.

Among the 109 Class A rivers in Japan, Kimotsukigawa is 34km long and is located in the southernmost part of the country where water from the Takakuma mountains flows through the Shirasu plateau into Shibushi Bay. 51% of the river basin area is flat, and agriculture and poultry thrive in this region by making good use of the flat area.

Participants gathered at slightly past 6 a.m., but the sun was already very strong, and they started to sweat before getting to work.
Participants from Kagoshima Group wore a blue bib vest printed with the NTT logo, and engaged in the cleaning mission with a plastic bag in their hand while they exchanged greetings with the local residents. Though drenched in sweat, the participants worked diligently to pick up litter and remove weeds. The total amount of trash that was collected weighed as heavy as 900kg.

NTT West Kagoshima Group will continue to participate and engage actively in community-based environmental conservation activities while deepening our ties with the local government.
