Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 247Pine Forest Conservation Activity at Fukui Beach of Itoshima City September 30, 2017 NTT West Fukuoka Group

On September 30, 2017, NTT West Fukuoka Group participated in the seventh round of the pine forest conservation activity at Fukui Beach (Fukuoka Prefecture, Itoshima City, Nijo-Fukui).

This initiative makes use of the Adopt Program of Itoshima City that was introduced in August 2014, where segments that were assigned by the city were regarded as "foster (adopted) children" for activities to be carried out in the long term to restore the scenery with white sand and green pines.

It was a sunny day on the day of the event, and with support from the "Pine Forest Preservation Society," the body that was commissioned to manage the Itoshima City Adopt Project, a total of 102 employees and family members of Fukuoka Group took part in activities to help maintain the beautiful pine forest, including branch picking, pine-needle raking and grass cutting to protect the pine trees from weevils.

At the previous round of activity in April, the personnel in charge at Itoshima City said that damages to the pine trees at Fukui Beach caused by weevils have been reduced to one to two trees yearly, thanks to the consistent effort of this conservation activity.

During the activity, two shoro mushrooms with a diameter of about 3cm were found. They were brought home by interested participants.
Shoro is a type of edible mushroom that grows in pine forests along the coast. However, due to deterioration of the environmental conditions, they have become a rare species with a high market value today. The reason that they could be found can be attributed to the constant effort of activities such as undergrowth weeding.

NTT West Fukuoka Group will unite its efforts to promote the "Midori Ippai Project" while deepening its cooperative ties with organizations such as local governments.
