Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 246Local Contribution and Environment Conservation Activities Using Vehicle-mounted Work Platforms August 2 to 29, 2017 NTT West Nagasaki Group

Starting from the Isahaya area on August 2 (Wednesday), NTT West Nagasaki Group engaged in this series of activities, which have been ongoing since 2007, at three areas in Nagasaki Prefecture.
In additional to existing corporate participants, university student volunteers and Kenshokyo (Youth Guidance Leaders Liaison Council) also took part this year, which helped to increase the number of participants considerably.

At 10 a.m. on August 2 (Wednesday), an opening ceremony was held at Unzen City Obama Elementary School, which was attended by the school officials, police stations, telecommunications construction companies, partner companies, NTT West, NTT Fieldtechno, NTT Business Solutions and NTT Business Associe West. After the opening speeches by the principal of Obama Elementary School, Manager of NTT West Nagasaki Branch and Chief of Community Safety Division at Unzen Police Station, everyone recited the safety slogan in unison.

The participants were then divided into groups to hold a KYT (Kiken Yochi Training or Risk Prediction Training) before starting work. A total of seven vehicle-mounted work platforms and four lightweight trucks were used for the pruning and cleaning works. Utmost priority was given to ensuring safety such as by lowering branches and leaves that were pruned off using a rope, while careful attention was also paid to avoid heatstroke. The activity, which lasted for about two hours, helped to enhance the visibility of the school route.

At the closing ceremony after the work was completed, the vice principal of Obama Elementary School thanked the participants, saying that the students can now commute to their school safely with the brighter school route.

The event was covered by Himawari TV (cable TV company) and featured in a program at a later date.

NTT West Nagasaki Group will continue with the activity to cut away or prune unwanted trees as part of the environmental protection efforts so as to ensure the safety of the elementary and junior high school children.
