LINE 244 "Gifu Midori Ippai Project" - Cleaning of Nagara River after the Summer Holiday Season

On September 2, 2017 (Saturday), NTT West Gifu Group held an activity to clean Nagara River after the summer holiday season has come to an end.

The venue of the cleaning activity was the wide riverbed area along Nagara River which is visited by many families during the summer holidays for camping and barbeque.
However, large quantities of litter that were not brought home by the users, such as plastic bottles, empty cans, food wastes, disposable utensils, grilling meshes and fireworks, were found scattered around this area at the end of summer. A lot of trash from the upstream were also washed ashore such as when the water level of the river rose.

A total of 95 participants, including employees, family members and retired employees of Gifu Group, gathered at 8 a.m. to take part in the cleaning activity. They cleaned up a wide area along the river, and were drenched in sweat as they gathered a large quantity of litter.
During the short breaks between the cleaning work, many children were engrossed in chasing after grasshoppers and dragonflies and catching insects.

During the summer season, events such as Nagara River cormorant fishing and Nagara River "Takigi Noh" rituals are held at night on the riverbed, which evoke a fantastical feel among the viewers.
There are also many hotels near the Nagaragawa Onsen (Nagara River Hot Spring) area which attract a large number of visitors throughout the year.

NTT West Gifu Group will continue to engage in this endeavor to maintain the scenic and clear Nagara River as well as to hand down the beautiful scenery to future generations.
