As part of the Midori Ippai Project efforts, NTT West Tokushima Group took part in the "9th Flower Planting Event" on May 13, 2017 (Saturday) under the "Tokushima Downtown Flower Road Project" hosted by the NPO "Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai (Association to Preserve Shinmachi River)".

Launched in November 2014 and held three times a year (May, September and December), this is an activity to plant flowers at the planting zones and flowerbeds along the roads in the downtown area of Tokushima City with the hope of offering a pleasant experience to visitors to and residents of the city.

It was raining on the day of the event, and a total of more than 250 people, including 33 from Tokushima Group as well as volunteer groups formed by NPOs, local neighborhood associations, co-sponsors, university students and residents from the neighboring districts of Tokushima City, took part in the activity.

After everyone gathered at Aibahama Park at 8 a.m., the opening ceremony kicked off with greeting from the vice governor of Tokushima City, who talked about activities to raise and spread awareness toward enhancing the urban environment and promoting a green environment. This was followed by a speech from Mr. Nakamura, Chairman of NPO Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai, who said that this activity to gather volunteers stemmed from the desire to transform Tokushima City into a city of flowers through the planting activities of the participants. He also expressed the hope to involve as many residents as possible in this effort.
After the opening address, a briefing was conducted by NPO Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai on how to plant the 15,000 petunia plants.

At the end of the opening ceremony, the participants were divided into seven groups, and each group was assigned to the flowerbeds and planting zones at one of the designated locations for planting the flowers, which extended from the front of Tokushima Station to Awaodori Kaikan, and from the front of Awagin Hall to the City Government Office. Participants from Tokushima Group engaged in the planting work at 10 flowerbeds located on the Motomachi road divider.
The planting activity for the day ended with a commemorative photo-taking session at Aibahama Park, the meeting point for the Tokushima Group participants.

Also, participants who have engaged in the planting work since morning were treated to a bowl of hot udon noodles at the Hyotan Island Cruise Terminal at Ryokokubashi that is operated by Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai.

NTT West Tokushima Group will continue to engage in the planting activities at the planting zones and flowerbeds in the downtown area of Tokushima City to help raise the awareness toward the importance of greenery and cultivate a sense of attachment for the flowers and greenery in the city.
