Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 238Participation in the Ishikawa Forestation Project June 24 and July 8, 2017 NTT West Hokuriku Group

NTT West Hokuriku Group took part in the "Ishikawa Forestation Project" that was held on two Saturdays, June 24 and July 8, 2017. This project was hosted by Ishikawa Reforestation Promotion Association.

Individual and corporate members of the Association as well as their family members engage in forest conservation activities at three locations (Kaga, Kanazawa and Noto), which include undergrowth weeding, vine cutting, cleaning and thinning works for konara oaks, sawtooth oaks, beeches, wild chestnuts and other types of trees. On-site learning using resources in the forest is also conducted, such as fungal inoculation and planting of wild plants and vegetables.

Hokuriku Group took part in the undergrowth weeding and vine cutting activities of the "Ishikawa Forestation Project" to help the planted trees grow healthily.
The weather was humid due to the rainy season on the days of the event, and thanks to the participants who were drenched in sweat as they concentrated on the weeding and cutting work, the forest became bright again an hour later with sunlight shining through it.

After the conservation activities, the following comments were received from the participants: "this was my first time weeding using a sickle and it was a fun experience," "I was soaked in sweat. Although it only lasted for an hour, I really worked up a good sweat." Many also enjoyed the taste of the kusamochi and the famous local tochimochi rice cakes, which were offered to the participants as a souvenir.

Forests are an indispensable element for enriching our lives as they help to prevent global warming and natural disasters such as landslides. Stag beetles and wild rabbits were spotted during the activity, and this tells us that bountiful forests help to enhance the diversity of living creatures and plants. Not only do they offer therapeutic effects and other gifts of nature to mankind, there is also a significant impact on the ecosystem and food chain.

NTT West Hokuriku Group will continue to engage in forestation activities to help enhance the interaction among nature, culture and our lives.
