Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 236Participation in "Tanabe Bay Cleaning Mission" June 10, 2017 NTT West Wakayama Group

On June 10, 2017 (Saturday), a total of 52 employees and family members of NTT West Wakayama Group took part in the "Tanabe Bay Cleaning Mission" organized by Tanabe City of Wakayama Prefecture.
This is the 19th round of participation since Wakayama Group joined the activity in 1999.

This activity aims to deepen understanding toward the issue of trash drifted ashore through cleaning activities at areas such as Tanabe Bay, a beautiful area that is richly endowed with nature. At the same time, it also aims to cultivate awareness about nature conservation as well as beautification of the environment.

The cleaning mission this year was held as an event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Minamikata Kumagusu, a pioneer researcher in Japan in the field of botany (particularly slime molds) who spent 37 years of his research in Tanabe City.

Cleaning activities were carried out at a total of five districts in Tanabe City, namely the Motoshima area and Tenjinzaki district which is connected to Tanabe Bay, Atonoura district, Torinosu district, Hidariaizugawa-kako district and Ogigahama district. Members of NTT West Wakayama Group took part in cleaning at the Ogigahama district.

Blessed with good weather on the day of the event, all the participants were sweating away as they engaged in trash collection with some working together with their family members while others filling the bags with the garbage collected.

Thanks to the effort of all the 1,103 participants in the five districts, approximately 7.6 tons of garbage were collected, which helped to conserve the beautiful scenery and bountiful nature of Tanabe Bay.

In addition to this cleaning activity, NTT West Wakayama Group also participates in activities that are part of the River Conservation Month launched by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, such as "Kinokawa Mass Cleaning" and "10,000 People Mass Cleaning."
We will continue to engage actively in the participation and promotion of environmental conservation activities.
