Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 225Participation in "Satoyama (Village Forest) Development at Kozono-yama Oyama-yama Green Belt" June 3, 2017 NTT West Kumamoto Group

On June 3, 2017 (Saturday), NTT West Kumamoto Group took part in the satoyama (village forest) development work at the Kozono-yama Oyama-yama green belt located in Higashi-ku of Kumamoto City.
This is a joint activity with members of Earth Greenery Activities Japan (EGAJ) and the local community association. A total of 80 participants took part in the event, including 66 supporters from the Fukuoka Branch of Kumamoto Group.

If left unattended, the rapid proliferation of moso bamboos may cause disordered "bamboo invasion" into surrounding vegetation, thereby resulting in damages to other plants such as withering of trees by blocking off sunlight and sucking up nutrients from the soil.
EGAJ, an NPO, was commissioned by Kumamoto City to hold this activity, which aims at transforming a part of the green belt into a village forest. This is the second year Kumamoto Group participated in the event.

The event kicked off with an opening address from the Planning and General Affairs Department Manager, after which a briefing was conducted on the details of this activity. Participants then engaged in tasks such as sorting the bamboos, moving the cut bamboos, trimming their branches, and making flowerbeds in the surrounding areas.

The sun was strong on this early summer day, and many participants were drenched in sweat immediately after the activity started. Thanks to their hard work, the task was successfully completed with the area around the green belt transforming beyond recognition into a beautiful place.

NTT West Kumamoto Group will continue to engage in environment conservation efforts while maintaining a relationship of mutual support with the local community.
