On May 21, 2017 (Sunday), NTT West Fukuoka Group took part in the "Love Earth Cleanup 2017" event that was jointly held by the residents, corporations and government bodies as part of the Clean Environment Mission to beautify the local environment.
An endeavor to beautify the surroundings of the local region and protect the natural environment and at the same time a social action program to contribute to the local community, this year marks the 29th round of this major cleaning activity which has been ongoing since 1989 at about 200 venues including the Shikanoshima Beach as well as other beaches, rivers and parks in the city.
At the opening address, the chairman of the Local Government Association of Shikanoshima expressed his gratitude for our long years of cleaning activity. Blessed with fine weather, a total of 622 Fukuoka Group employees and their family members as well as retired employees took part in the event to collect and separate litter such as empty cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles on the beach as well as the large quantities of seaweed that were washed ashore. Also, thanks to the support provided by the trailer team formed by the newly-recruited employees to collect the bags of trash, the beach is now clean again.
Besides attracting beach-goers in summer, Shikanoshima Beach is also a popular spot for sightseeing and driving trips with many visitors from different parts of Japan throughout the year.
We believe visitors to Shikanoshima will be able to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery that has been restored after this round of cleaning activity.
It was also a meaningful day that allowed the participants to think about protection of the natural environment through the cleaning activity.
NTT West Fukuoka Group will continue to engage in community-based activities to protect the natural environment.
