NTT Group has formulated and implemented the "Solution Environment Label" since FY 2009 to facilitate our customers' understanding of our environmental contribution efforts via ICT as well as to promote environmental endeavors.
In FY 2016, NTT West Group acquired the Solution Environment Label certification for the first time for "Eco Megane" and "Smart Connect VPS."
To obtain the certification, it is necessary to "achieve a reduction rate of more than 15% at the time when the amount of reduction in CO2 emission is quantitatively evaluated."

Eco Megane

Certified in FY 2016, "Eco Megane" is a service for the remote monitoring of solar power generation.
It is a cloud-based service that consolidates sensor measurement data on the Internet so that users can monitor the amount of electricity generated on their devices such as PC, smartphone or cell phone anytime and anywhere.
Besides analysis of power generated, alert mail notifications can also be received through this service when a decline in electric power or power outage is likely to occur, while companies selling solar power can also monitor the status remotely and thus address abnormalities more efficiently, thereby contributing to the reduction of CO2 emission since there is no need to move physically to the site to conduct an inspection.
As the facilities for solar power generation for industrial use (10kW and above, all-quantity buyback) are mostly located at remote locations, remote monitoring by sellers and contractors of photovoltaic systems allows for the early detection of malfunction such as decline in electric power or power outage, thus reducing the risk of any delay in investment recovery.
Meanwhile, services for household solar power generation (below 10kW, surplus buyback) allow users to check not only the amount of electricity generated, but also the amount of power consumption, electricity bill as well as the price at which electricity is sold.
When a comparison is made between the use of "Eco Megane" with that of the traditional system, the amount of reduction in CO2 emission achieved is 43% per year in the case of a corporate entity, and 51% in the case of a household.

Smart Connect VPS

Smart Connect VPS offers a virtual environment that makes use of VMware to achieve a high level of reliability and provide a secure system of operation.
It can be employed for the ""introduction of a cloud-based business system,"" ""construction of a backup system"" and ""conversion of in-house apps to PaaS/SaaS."" Doing so helps to reduce CO2 emission arising from the use of ICT equipment or manual operation.
Compared to the traditional system where individual servers are set up by the customers and utilized including installation, maintenance and operation of air-conditioning systems and NW equipment, customers' servers are managed collectively by the data center in the case of Smart Connect VPS, which also increases the efficiency with the use of common facilities.
Results have shown that introduction of Smart Connect VPS helps to reduce CO2 emission by 77% per year compared to the traditional system.

I have been engaging in efforts to promote the widespread use of solar power generation as well as reduction of CO2 emission through the development of "Eco Megane," a remote monitoring service for the photovoltaic system.
In future, I will strive to promote the further widespread use of renewable energy and reduction in CO2 emission through efforts such as offering O&M (*1) services for photovoltaic power plants, promoting "school (public) PV (*2)" and "PPA for households (*3)," as well as aggregation (consolidation, distribution and giving back) of environmental values (J-Credit/non-fossil value) and VPP (*4) business.
