LINE 197 Participation in "Satoyama (Village Forest) Development at Kozono-yama Oyama-yama Green Belt"

On November 26, 2016 (Saturday), NTT West Kumamoto Group took part in the satoyama (village forest) development work at the Kozono-yama Oyama-yama green belt located in Higashi-ku of Kumamoto City.

This activity is intended to transform a part of the Kozono-yama Oyama-yama green belt into a satoyama (village forest) in response to the occurrence of harmful bamboo invasion by the disordered proliferation of moso bamboos. Earth Greenery Activities Japan (EGAJ), an NPO, has been commissioned by Kumamoto City to hold this activity, and this was also the first time Kumamoto Group participated in the event.

In addition to members from EGAJ and Kumamoto Group, those who participated in the VIC* meeting held in Kumamoto the previous day also took part in the event, making a total number of 50 participants.
After the greeting from the branch manager, a briefing was conducted by EGAJ on the objectives and significance of this activity, after which the participants were divided into different groups to carry out tasks such as bamboo cutting and trimming of branches.

Although it was slightly chilly on the day of the event, the weather was perfect with everyone working up a good sweat when the activity started and were drenched in sweat near the end. Thanks to their efforts, the area around the green belt is now more beautiful.

NTT West Kumamoto Group will continue to engage in environment conservation efforts through this activity.
