On September 10, 2016 (Saturday), NTT West Tokai Group took part in the making of autumn flowerbeds under the Hana Ippai Project. This was the second round of the same project for 2016.

This activity is held three times a year in spring, summer and autumn in cooperation with other corporations and groups as part of the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens revitalization plan by making the botanical gardens a place that is full of flowers. This project aims at supporting and nurturing lives while expanding one's network through establishing connection with people.

Although the event was on the verge of being canceled due to typhoon, the participants were blessed with clear weather that resembled a mid-summer day, and the turnout reached a record high of 165 who are employees, retired employees and family members of Tokai Group.

After a briefing by the botanical garden staff on how to plant the flowers, the participants were divided into three groups. Members of NTT West Group started work together at the respective flowerbeds.
Three types of cosmos, an autumn flower, with a total number of about 3,700 plants were planted this time. Seedlings were planted into the flowerbeds in no time, with a beautiful green carpet formed by the neatly arranged leaves.

In the afternoon, planting of grass for the lawn was carried out at areas around the flowerbeds.
A total of 27 volunteers took part in this activity, where they attached sod patches one by one and nailed them down with bamboo sticks at the four corners to prevent them from being removed by crows. The task was more exhausting than expected and the volunteers were drenched in sweat as they carried out the work.

The participants will continue to watch the growth of the flowers and carry out monitoring and maintenance works.
