Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 175FY2016 "Tanabe Bay Cleaning Mission" June 4, 2016 NTT West Wakayama Group
On June 4, 2016 (Saturday), NTT West Wakayama Group took part in the "Tanabe Bay Cleaning Mission" organized by Tanabe City.
This activity, which started since 1976, aims to deepen understanding toward the issue of trash being drifted ashore through the cleaning activities at areas such as Tanabe Bay, a beautiful area that is richly endowed with nature. At the same time, it also aims to cultivate awareness about nature conservation as well as beautification of the environment. NTT West Wakayama Group has been taking part in this mission since 1999, and 2016 marked the 18th year of participation.
Cleaning this year was carried out at a total of five districts in Tanabe City, namely the Motoshima and Tenjinzaki district, Atonoura district, Torinosu district, Aizugawa-kako district and Ogigahama district. Members of NTT West Wakayama Group took part in the activity at the Ogigahama district.
It was drizzling from an overcast sky on the day of the event. A total of 71 Wakayama Group employees and their family members picked up trash along the coast of the Ogigahama district as well as large quantities of driftwood and seaweed that were washed ashore and trapped between the rocks. The participants were drenched in sweat as they filled the bags with the trash collected.
All the 1,209 participants in the five districts, including those from NTT West Wakayama Group, contributed to conserving the beautiful and bountiful nature of Tanabe Bay with approximately 7.7 tons of garbage collected.
In addition to this cleaning activity, NTT West Wakayama Group also takes part in activities such as "Kinokawa Mass Cleaning" and "10,000 People Mass Cleaning." We will continue to engage actively in the promotion of community-based environmental conservation activities.
