Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 158NTT West Group Tree Planting Event May 15, 2016 NTT West Group

On May 15, 2016 (Sunday), the NTT West Group Tree Planting Event was held at the Sakai 7-3 District Forest of Symbiosis.

Started since 2011, this is the 12th round of the tree planting project, with 400 trees planted and grass cutting performed across an area of 1,200m2.

Blessed with fine weather on the day of the event, Mr. Uema, Senior Vice President of NTT West, expressed the hope for the participants to feel the importance of nurturing lives through tree planting in his opening address. This was followed by a tree planting ceremony by Senior Vice President of NTT West - Mr. Uema, President of NTT Mediasupply - Mr. Somekawa, and Manager of NTT West Osaka-minami Branch - Mr. Teranishi.

The species of trees planted this year include Japanese maple, black pine, Japanese privet, bayberry, Machilus thunbergi, Castanopsis sieboldii, Ubame oak and Camellia japonica. 50 plants of each species, which added up to a total of 400 plants, were carefully planted and labeled with tags by all the participants under the guidance of members from Nature Osaka.

Participants also worked hard in the grass cutting activity as undergrowth that is left unattended will block away sunlight that is needed by the saplings, thereby affecting their growth.

Held in conjunction with the grass cutting activity was a kendama (ball and cup) game for the children.
Mr. Masashi Yamauchi from the Network Department of NTT West Equipment HQ, who possesses a 4-dan certification by the Japan Kendama Association and is a two-time kendama contest winner, demonstrated and taught the children how to play the kendama.
Not only was it an enjoyable experience for the children, there were also loud cheers from adults who were watching.

At the end of the event, everyone gathered to take a group photo before the closing address by Mr. Teranishi, Manager of NTT West Osaka-minami Branch, who expressed that he looked forward to seeing the trees planted on this day grow into a forest by the time the children who took part in this event grow into adults.

Every participant in this activity sincerely hopes that the saplings planted on this day will eventually grow into a forest and provide a wonderful habitat for a wide variety of living creatures.
