Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 145FY 2015 2nd Adopt Program Yoshino River (River Cleanup) October 24, 2015 NTT West Tokushima Group

On October 24 (Saturday), NTT West Tokushima Branch and the group companies in the prefectural region took part in the "Adopt Program Yoshino River," an activity to clean up the riverbed of Yoshino River.

This Adopt Program is a project that divides the riverbed of Yoshino River into segments, and participants (groups, companies, etc.) are invited to "adopt" each of the riverbed segments.
Participants will become the "foster parent" of the riverbed segment they are in charge of, which is their "foster child," and cleanup and beautification activities are carried out periodically (three times a year).

NTT West Tokushima Branch is in charge of cleaning and beautifying a 600m segment of riverbed and levee on the left bank that is 1,400m to 2,000m upstream from the mouth of Yoshino River.
"Tokushima Marathon 2015" was held this year in March, and the cleanup activity that was originally scheduled in April was brought forward to March. Thus only two cleanup activities were held this fiscal year. The next round is scheduled to be held in April 2016.

This cleanup activity was also held as part of the "NTT West Clean Environment Mission." Despite falling on a non-working day, a total of about 110 participants, including employees and family members of NTT West Tokushima Group as well as retired employees and members of Public Telephone Communication (P Com), gathered at 8:00 a.m. to take part in the cleanup activity, which lasted for about an hour.

Three typhoons struck the area since the first cleanup activity this fiscal year in July, and because the cleanup area was near the mouth of Yoshino River, a lot of trash was accumulated along the river. Trash collected included 30 bags of combustible garbage, 55 bags of non-combustible garbage (including recyclable wastes), bulky trash such as car tires that require disposal as industrial waste, hard rubber hoses, iron sheets, driftwood, polystyrene foam boxes, plastic containers, tatami mats and cooler boxes. Tokushima Office of River and National Highway (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) was contacted to handle other types of trash that could not be handled by NTT, such as refrigerators and large TVs.

In the closing address, Mr. Fujieda, Manager of NTT West Tokushima Branch and representative of the secretariat, expressed that the activity to clean up Yoshino River is carried out as part of the group's social action program to contribute to the local community. He added that this would be the last activity for the fiscal year, and looks forward to a large turnout in the activity for the next fiscal year, which is scheduled in early April 2016.

The event ended with a group photo-taking with the beautified Yoshino River as the background.
We believe it was a great day for everyone who took part in the activity.
