Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 138Participation in the "3rd Tokushima Downtown Flower Road Project" in Conjunction with the Tokushima City Water and Greenery Festival 30th Anniversary Flower Planting Event September 26, 2015 NTT West Tokushima Group

On September 26 (Saturday), NTT West Tokushima Branch Group took part as a co-sponsor company in the "Tokushima Downtown Flower Road Project" planting activity as part of the "Midori Ippai Project." The activity was hosted by the NPO "Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai (Association to Preserve Shinmachi River)."

The "Water and Greenery Festival 30th Anniversary Event" was hosted by Tokushima City and co-hosted by NPO "Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai (Association to Preserve Shinmachi River)."
Despite falling on later half of the Silver Week long weekend, a total of about 250 people, including 50 from NTT West Tokushima Branch Group and participants from NPOs, local neighborhood associations, co-sponsors and university student volunteer groups, showed up on the day of the event.

The opening ceremony kicked off at Aibahama Park at 8:00a.m with Mr. Hara, Mayor of Tokushima City, delivering an opening address for the "Water and Greenery Festival 30th Anniversary Event." This was followed by a speech from Mr. Nakamura, Chairman of NPO Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai, who expressed the goal to offer a pleasant experience to tourists as well as residents of the city by transforming the downtown area of Tokushima City into a city of flowers.
After the speeches, staff from the NPO explained the way to plant the 10,000 plants (including 5,000 scarlet sage and 5,000 marigold).

At the end of the opening ceremony, the participants were divided into seven groups, and each group was assigned to the flowerbeds and planting zones at one of the designated locations for planting the flowers, which extended from the front of Tokushima Station to Awaodori Kaikan, and from the front of Awagin Hall to the City Government Office. The 50 participants from NTT West Tokushima Branch Group were divided into two groups due to the large number. One group was assigned respectively to the planting zone in front of Aibahama Park (approximately 400m along Route 192) to help out in the road cleaning activity, while the other was assigned to planting scarlet sage and marigold. The activity lasted for about two hours.

After the tree planting activity, all NTT West Tokushima Branch Group participants of the "Midori Ippai Project" gathered at the meeting point (Aibahama Park) and took a commemorative photo at the end of the event.

We believe it was a great day for everyone who took part in the activity.
