Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 133Participation in the Ishikawa Reforestation Project June 27, July 4 and July 11, 2015 NTT West Hokuriku Group

NTT West Hokuriku Group took part in the "Ishikawa Reforestation Project" that lasted for three weeks from late June. This activity was hosted by Ishikawa Reforestation Promotion Association.
This year marked the fourth year of participation, with a total of 37 employees and family members showing up at the three venues to take part in the weeding of undergrowth and vine cutting for the trees that were planted in the past.

As the rainy season has started, it was raining on the day of the event at some of the venues. Participants who were wearing their rain gear engaged in the work while wiping the raindrops and sweat off them with a towel under the humid weather.

The trunk of the young trees were still thin and growing the last time the activity was held, but their roots have now grown firmly into the soil. Meanwhile, weeds around them which were left untrimmed have grown very tall and were blocking off sunlight that the forest needed.
The tasks were taxing as participants had to weed the undergrowth in a half-crouching position or remove the vines that were high up. After focusing on their work quietly for about two hours, the forest was brightened up again with sunlight penetrating through the trees.

At the end of the activity, local snacks and cold tea were offered to the participants to help them recover from the pleasant fatigue as they interacted with the volunteers.

Trees that are well managed and maintained will eventually grow into forests and work in ways that help to conserve the environment and prevent global warming.
We look forward to a large turnout from the employees and their family members at the next round of activity in autumn.
