Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 122"Gifu Midori Ippai Project" - Returning Acorns to the Forest June 13, 2015 NTT West Gifu Group
On June 13, 2015 (Saturday), NTT West Gifu Group held a forest volunteer activity to plant trees and weed undergrowth at "Nagaragawa Fureai no Mori."
The main activities held this time include weeding of undergrowth and returning saplings that were grown from acorns collected from this forest in autumn two years ago and nurtured at the participants' homes.
Saplings that participants brought with them to the venue have grown so big and green compared to the time when they were just a little acorn.
It shows how much love the host parents have put into growing the plants.
A total of 15 saplings were planted on a slope where undergrowth weeding and anti-erosion works were complete.
The participants were very used to working on a slope.
Viewing up from below, the slope was seen to transform gradually from the earth color of the soil into green color.
Doing so allows the plants to spread their roots into the ground, thereby preventing landslides from occurring.
Also, it will help with the cycle of the forest's ecosystem when acorns that fall off from the trees to the ground sprout and grow into more trees. This cycle can also be expected to produce a natural purification effect.
As a memento, children were asked to write their names on the signboard for the saplings which the participants brought along with them.
We hope the participants will continue to come back and visit the trees that have grown bigger as years go by.
A total of 40 people (23 employees and family members of Gifu Business Unit, 15 members of the Yomoginokai OB volunteer group, and 2 from Gifu City Government Office). It was hot and humid on the day of the event, and participants were drenched in sweat wearing long-sleeve shirts and long pants. Thanks to everyone for your participation.
