Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 118Clean Beach Ishikawa in Kanazawa - Let's Clean up the Coastlines of Ishikawa May 31, 2015 NTT West Hokuriku Group
On May 31, 2015 (Sunday), NTT West Hokuriku Group took part in "Clean Beach Ishikawa in Kanazawa," a beach protection activity to clean up the coastline of Ishikawa.
This year, a total of 254 employees and their family from NTT West Hokuriku Company took part in the Clean Beach activity.
NTT West Group took up the role of a volunteer leader to clean up approximately 1km of the coastline at the Senkoji area (Kanazawa City) together with local companies and volunteer residents.
In addition to Kanazawa City, the same beach cleaning activity was also held concurrently in the cities of Hakusan, Hakui and Noto. It was a large-scale activity that was participated by about 7,700 residents.
Weather conditions were unfavorable as it started to rain late at night just before the event. Fortunately, the sky started to clear up when cleaning began at 7a.m. in the morning, and the weather turned slightly hot.
While heavy physical work to remove bulky trash or load them onto a truck was required with the combined effort of the participants, other tasks such as picking up litter washed to the shore that was accumulated with sand required much patience. Nevertheless, cleaning was completed speedily in about an hour with participants and their family members talking to and showing concern for one other.
The cleaning was worth the effort, as the beach of Ishikawa regained its natural beauty with only footsteps left after the volunteers have passed by.
Trash that is washed to the shore is mostly household garbage, and it is us who have affected the environment.
From this, I learned the importance to bear in mind not to generate garbage unnecessarily in our day-to-day activities so that our local coastlines will stay bountiful and beautiful forever.
