On April 16, 2015 (Thursday), Mie Business Unit held the seventh "Hikari no Mori (Bright Forest)" forest protection activity.

"Hikari no Mori" is a city-owned forest located at the foot of the Aoyama Highland in Mie Prefecture with an area of 4.5ha. In 2011, NTT West Mie Branch signed an agreement with Mie Prefecture to maintain the forest based on a five-year plan, and has been holding activities such as tree thinning to grow the forest.

This event marked a record-high participation, with a total of 43 employees and their family as well as members of NTT-OB taking part in the tree thinning activity and woodworking class.

At the thinning activity using a handsaw, participants of each group worked together to cut down Japanese cypress trees, a task that requires considerable physical effort. All the team members helped each other to carry out the task with experienced participants working on it skillfully while at the same time sharing tips on the techniques with the first-timer participants.

There were louder cheers from the bigger turnout this time whenever the cypress trees toppled down to the ground with a creaking sound.

At the woodworking class that makes use of timber collected from the thinning activity, participants had an enjoyable time learning how to make their own chopsticks and showing their final works to all the other members.

Reporters from newspaper agencies and TV stations were also present on the day of the event, who featured voices of the participants in their coverage. It was a day when Mie Group stood out prominently.
