LINE 116 "Gifu Midori Ippai Project" - Building The "Green Curtain" Again This Year

Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 116"Gifu Midori Ippai Project" - Building The "Green Curtain" Again This Year May 15 and 19, 2015 NTT West Gifu Group

As with last year, NTT West Gifu Group held an activity on May 15 and 19, 2015 to build a "green curtain" by planting creepers at three NTT buildings of the Gifu Business Unit (Kano Building, Umegae Building and Kitamachi Building).

The locations for installing the green curtain were also well thought out with the amount of exposure to the sun taken into consideration. The places include the inner courtyard of the building, the sides of the entrance and the area outside the window on level two.
Besides plants such as bitter gourd, tomato, cucumber and morning glory, hop plants were also added this year. Hop plants were selected because of the ideal vine length. Also, hop is a perennial plant that will bud again next year, and the fruit it bears is edible.
I have not eaten the fruits of a hop before, and look forward to tasting it.

While the aim of this endeavor is to lower the room temperature inside the building and reduce power consumption, the cooling look of the green curtains as well as the fruits that can be harvested are also something to look forward to.

Lately, we can see a lot of green curtain installations in the city using bitter gourd and cucumber plants. They can also be grown in planters, and we hope everyone will give it a try.

The seeds of the balloon vine and morning glory plants that were produced last year have budded into a large number of seedlings and are waiting to be used.
We enjoy the process of trial and error to try out different methods such as trimming the seedlings and replacing the soil during our short breaks.
