Midori Ippai Project Activities LINE 266Interaction Activity at the "NTT Hikari no Mori (Bright Forest)" November 11, 2017 NTT West Kochi Group

On November 11, 2017 (Saturday), NTT West Kochi Group carried out thinning works at the "NTT Hikari no Mori (Bright Forest)."

This activity is held based on the "Cooperative Forestation Partnership Agreement" (with Kochi Prefecture, Kochi City and Kochi Forest Owners' Cooperative) that was concluded in 2008 to engage in activities such as tree thinning in the overcrowded parts of the "NTT Hikari no Mori (Bright Forest)" to create an environment that allows sufficient sunlight to reach the tree roots.

The sky was blue and weather was stable, warm and slightly windy on the day of the activity, which was participated by a total of 45 people who are employees, family members as well as retired employees of the Kochi Group.
Participants who took part in this activity were divided into two groups, A and B, and a hands-on thinning experience session and woodwork class that teaches participants to make wooden bags were conducted for each group.

For the hands-on thinning experience session, helmets, gloves and saws were provided by representatives of the Kochi Forest Owners' Cooperative. Work was held on a steep slope located downhill, and participants including children and adults worked together to cut down four large cypress trees using saws.
On their way back, the participants found a snake lying still by the side of the path, perhaps because it was hibernating, so the children quietly walked past it.

At the woodwork class, participants learned to make wooden bags. However, this was a rather tough challenge and participants had a hard time working on it. After exceeding the scheduled duration for 30 minutes, the participants somehow managed to complete making their bags.

Under the clear blue sky and surrounded by clean air, participants had a satisfying lunch that included charcoal-grilled food, inaka sushi (a local specialty of Kochi) and miso soup with pork and vegetables. Their joyous laughter echoed through the quiet mountains.

NTT West Kochi Group will continue to engage in the "Midori Ippai Project" activities.
