NTT Group to Participate in TELECOM 99 |
Eight NTT group companies*1 will participate in TELECOM 99 + INTERACTIVE 99 to be held the Palexpo exhibition center in Geneva, Switzerland from October 10 to 17. The main theme of the NTT group exhibition, "A True Partner for You - NTT Group," will promote partnerships with the recently reorganized NTT group.
The exhibition will be divided into seven separate sections, which will be tied together under the keyword "partnership." The sections will feature technologies such as infrastructure technology, next-generation mobile telecommunications, electronic commerce, network tools and the group's Arcstar-brand services. Highlights include:
- | Global Megamedia Network*2, which is being established by NTT R&D facilities as a new media infrastructure. |
- | Terminals and applications for W-CDMA*3, the new third-generation mobile wideband technology adopted as the standard for next-generation mobile communications system (IMT-2000). |
- | Super Cash electronic commerce system, which NTT Communications is now testing with a pilot project in Tokyo. |
- | Arcstar services, which provide total solutions for corporate customers engaged in international business. |
The NTT group will also present a wide variety of other equipment, systems and applications for global telecommunications during the show (see Attachment 1).
In addition to these exhibitions, NTT President Jun-ichiro Miyazu and other group executives (see Attachment 2) will participate in the Forum at TELECOM99+INTERACTIVE99 at Palexpo .

Global Megamedia Network
A conceptual next-generation multimedia network designed to realize, at the cost of conventional telephone telecommunications, 1) the transmission of mega-bit data in one second, 2) a flexible information distribution platform, and 3) mobile and seamless telecommunications. |

W-CDMA
Wideband Code Division Multiple Access is a new standard for global borderless communications, offering ISDN-quality data transmission and compatibility with multimedia services. NTT DoCoMo is planning to commercialize W-CDMA by the spring of 2001. |
