Trial Implementation of IP Connection Service
-- For Flat-Rate Full-time Internet Access --



NTT West and NTT East plan to introduce the IP Connection Service, offering full-time, unlimited Internet access for one flat monthly fee. The new service is scheduled to go into operation on a trial basis on November 1, 1999.

The trial phase is essential for a variety of reasons: in particular, to (1) test new IP network transmission technologies, (2) gauge the impact on our existing network infrastructure, and (3) identify trends in customer demand.


1. IP Connection Service Overview

(1) Service outline
The trial service will be conducted as follows: Participating INS-Net subscribers will be instructed to utilize special dialup numbers to access their Internet service providers (ISPs) through the IP network.

(3) Trial service fees
<1>Monthly usage fee: 8,000 yen (flat rate)
Note:
In addition to the above monthly usage fee, the following charges will also apply:
1) Monthly INS-Net base fee (monthly) and regular INS-Net usage fees for purposes other than utilizing the IP Connection Service.
2) ISP usage fee

<2>Installation fees
Base installation fee 1,000 yen (per installation)
Switcher configuration fee 1,000 yen (per B channel)

(4) Terms and conditions for service
<1>Subscriber line
- INS-Net 64
- INS-Net 64 Lite
- INS-Net 1500

<2>Contract unit
Subscriber line unit (However, limited to one B channel.)

<3>Communications mode
Digital communications mode (64 kilobits/sec)

(5) Trial service areas
Osaka: Chuo and Kita Wards and Suita City
Tokyo: Shinjuku, Ota, and Shibuya Wards

Service may also be available in certain areas adjacent to those listed above. Please see Supplement 1 for a full listing of all area codes to be covered.

(6) Trial service period
About one year, effective from November 1, 1999


2. Applications for Trial Service

(1) Application periods and contact points
We will begin accepting trial service applications and queries from October 18. For additional application-related details, please see Supplement 2.

(2) Participating ISPs
Supplement 3 is a listing of ISPs that plan to participate in the trial IP Connection Service. Please inquire directly with your ISP regarding its exact schedule for the initiation of service.
