Voice mail service
in emergencies functions to convey voice messages for confirming the safety
of families, etc. A telephone number in the stricken area is the key to
operating it.
The last three digits of a private phone number being used in the stricken
area are identified automatically by NTT WEST's network systems and registered
in message storage devices that have been installed in 50 places throughout
the country.
In a disaster, outgoing telephone lines from the stricken area as well
as lines among other areas of the country are available, while inbound lines
to the stricken area become congested. The system, which is like making
a detour to avoid a traffic jam, is effective in exchanging messages in
emergencies.
This service can store messages, so even if disaster victims are away from
home or cannot use their private phone due to a blackout, they can record
a message or call up any recorded message and listen to it via public and
mobile phones. |
